Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects

Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects (LTP) has been creating live theatre, outreach and educational programming for youth, adults and children for six years. Co-founded by Kelly Daniels and Ric Reid, LTP became a charitable organization when it was recognized for its unique outreach programming for seniors. Youth programming has also had a tremendous impact on what we do.  Weekly workshops for disenfranchised and at risk youth and our Young Company for emerging artists are sponsored by The United Way and Canadian Tire Financial Services: Jumpstart Charities.  We have many ‘homes’ that we work out of – workshops on site at The RAFT or school locations, rehearsals at The Shaw Festival, Carousel Players, and St. Thomas Anglican Church, and our live theatre performed in various high schools for Young Company, and our professional theatre performed out of The Sullivan Mahoney Courthouse Theatre in St. Catharines.  Coming soon this summer, LTP presents the inaugural International Busker Festival St. Catharines taking place in the downtown Market Square block from Church to St. Paul and Queen to Garden Park along King Street.

Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects has garnered a reputation for honest, gritty, poignant, delightful, and sometimes challenging theatre especially when we look at life’s darker moments. The calibre of our artistry is consistently celebrated.  And the community’s growing patronage is a testament to it.  Artistic Director, Kelly Daniels, says: “This community has steadfast loyalty.  Some of our patrons are now on a mission to bring people from T.O. to St. Catharines…well, they’ve been going to Toronto for theatre long enough…now it’s their turn to come to here.  We’ll have a beautiful new home to welcome them into…and of course, they’ll want to come back – with friends!  This new home will allow us to do what we do best, in almost any way we can imagine, in a fabulous, fully-equipped space that everyone has access to, and that everyone wants to visit.”

LTP strives to make theatre a rewarding experience. We want to tell stories that will make people forget their troubles for a few moments in exchange for gut wrenching laughter, such as THE 39 STEPS or Sexy Laundry (Best of 2010 – James Wegg Review). We want to challenge our audiences, too, to see other points of view, other sides of the coin, Problem Child and Albertine in Five Times. Some plays aren’t always comfortable to sit through, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? , but when the stories are beautifully told, The Beauty Queen of Leenane (Best of 2009 – James Wegg Review), they are undeniable and riveting Shakespeare’s Villains, and they reveal truths to us in a way that no other story telling medium can. This is the theatre you will experience at Lyndesfarne.   LTP also wishes to congratulate Artistic Director, Kelly Daniels, who was recognized for her work with Lyndesfarne Theatre Projects this year as the recipient of the Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Award – Tourism Enterprise 2010.
