Essential Collective Theatre

The Essential Collective Theatre (ECT) is a professional not-for-profit theatre company based in St. Catharines. Our mandate is to develop and produce original works alongside works by established contemporary Canadian playwrights.

  • Create compelling theatrical experiences by telling stories in innovative ways that are both relevant and accessible to Niagara’s growing theatre audiences.
  • Maintain a spirit of discovery and experimentation so that process is always as important as the product.
  • Export our original works outside the Niagara region, raising the profile of our performing arts community
  • Import theatre professionals from outside Niagara, infusing our creative environment with fresh energy and perspective
  • Establish opportunities for local theatre artists to practice their craft in a professional environment

Artistic Director Stephanie Jones says: “ECT has been presenting at the Sullivan Mahoney Courthouse Theatre in downtown St. Catharines since 2005. The Courthouse is a wonderful space and we’ve enjoyed developing our craft and our audience there. The new performing Arts centre will provide more technical flexibility and of course more seats! This will enable us to increase the overall impact of our productions while broadening our audience base. A big step up for the Arts Community and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
